How do you say it in Hebrew?
Weekly Phrase #8
How do we say in Hebrew
"most likely"

It may be not similar to anything you are used to, but, actually, it's quite a straightforward expression - סביר להניח, when סביר is "probable, plausible" and להניח is "to assume"! I don't have anything special to say about it even, so let's just jump straight into examples -

Examples:
⮞ They have already performed the changes, most likely. הם כבר ביצעו את השינויים, סביר להניח (audio #1)
⮞ Most likely they will not be willing to visit this hotel again, after what has happened. סביר להניח שהם לא ירצו לבקר שוב במלון הזה, אחרי מה שקרה (audio #2)
⮞ Most likely the rent will rise in the upcoming years, but in the meanwhile it's relatively low. סביר להניח ששכר הדירה יעלה בשנים הקרובות, אבל בינתיים זה נמוך יחסית (audio #3)
⮞ It's most likely that he's lose in elections. סביר להניח שהוא יפסיד בבחירות (audio #4)

Well, maybe it's worth mentioning that there is a synonym to סביר להניח and that's קרוב לוודאי (~"close to certain")

Examples -

⮞ Most probably it's the weather that causes the feeling of drowsiness. קרוב לוודאי שזה מזג האוויר שגורם לך לתחושת העייפות.(audio #5)
⮞ Most probably it's true, but still, I'd like to check the results once again. קרוב לוודאי זה נכון, אבל בכל זאת הייתי רוצה לבדוק את התוצאות עוד הפעם. (audio #6)

And this is all there is to it! A short one this week! ;)
Hope it was interesting!
See you next week,
Alisa
