Weekly Phrase #19
How to say in Hebrew
"both..."

Do you like learning Hebrew? and what about my tips? do you like them too? well, I'm sure you like both! ;) but... how do we say it in Hebrew, whn we like two things? well, there are two ways to say it - and not you will learn BOTH!

You probably know how to say "also" or "too" in Hebrew, right? It's "גם". So if someone says: "אני אוהב\ת ללכת לים", we can reply by saying - "אני גם" - me too, or me also! And to say "both", we just use "גם" twice!

Let's look at a few examples:
⮞ I love both my cat and my dog - אני אוהבת גם את הכלב שלי וגם את החתול שלי (audio # 1)
⮞ Both you and I like ice cream - גם אני וגם אתה אוהבים גלידה (audio #2)
They forgot both the keys and the wallet - הם שכחו גם את המפתחות וגם את הארנק (audio #3)

And what about out second way? well, it's "שניהם\שתיהן" - the two of them! And just like in English, you can also say "the two of us" - "שנינו" for masculine, and "שתינו" for feminine. So, unlike "גם וגם", you need to make sure you match it to the correct gender!

For exapmle:
⮞ Do you like these dresses? I like them both - את אוהבת את השמלות האלה? אני אוהבת את שתיהן (audio #4)
⮞ The two of us want to see a movie - שנינו רוצים לראות סרט (audio #5)
⮞ The both of us love the both of them - שתינו אוהבות את שניהם (audio #6)
And just like this - גם למדנו משהו חדש וגם נהנינו! עשינו את שניהם! We both learned something new and had fun! We did both!

See you soon for another phrase!
