How do you say it in Hebrew?
Weekly Phrase #14
How to say in Hebrew
"As much as I tried"?

How was it? Did you guess? ;)
Because it wasn't that far from English, - but still, a bit different! :)
If we take "much" from "how much" (כמה) - and add ש- for "as"* - what do we get? We get כמה ש-!
*(thought it's not exactly it, but it's often used in expressions that mean "as" - like in "as I wanted" - כמו שרציתי!)

Let's jump straight to some examples -
⮞ As much as I tried to understand him - I couldn't - כמה שניסיתי להבין אותו - לא הצלחתי (audio #1)
⮞ As much as I don't want to talk about it - it's the truth - כמה שאני לא רוצה לדבר על זה - זאת אמת (audio #2)
⮞ As much as it's surprising, it's not strange at all - כמה שזה מפתיע, זה לא מוזר בכלל (audio #3)
⮞ As much as it's annoying, a mask in a public place is a must... - כמה שזה מעצבן, מסכה במקום ציבורי - זה חובה! (audio #4)

We also use "as much as" in a straightforward comparison!
Like this:
⮞ He is as beautiful as he is evil - כמה שהוא יפה ככה הוא רשע (audio #5)
⮞ As much as it's expensive, it's of high quality - כמה שזה יקר, ככה זה איכותי! (audio #6)
⮞ As much as it's difficult - it's worth it - כמה שזה קשה ככה זה משתלם (audio #7)

Hope it was interesting and a bit unexpected! ;)
See you next week,
Alisa
